Chandler is set to get $14,247,515.04 back from the Maricopa Association of Governments for its Kyrene Road project between Loop 202 and north of Chandler Boulevard, covering design, land and construction through 2028. Scottsdale would spend up to $8,085,461.26 with Ames Construction to build a bridge on Thompson Peak Parkway over Reata Pass Wash. Both are big road projects moving from plans to contracts.

Chandler has a long list of its own. The city would pay Salt River Project $1,600,430.00 to move irrigation lines for the Ray Road and Dobson Road intersection project, buy land for the Paseo Trail crossing, sign a $390,000 two-year deal for transit shelters, and annex county right-of-way on Chandler Heights Road between McQueen Road and Val Vista Drive. It also wants a Union Pacific license to run fiber beside Warner Road, and the same item is also on the Sept. 17 regular meeting agenda. In Tempe, the Aviation Commission hears a Sky Harbor update and a NASA report on urban air mobility noise.

Phoenix brings the biggest single batch. The council would line up job-order contracts for its citywide pavement surface treatment program, hire a construction manager for Phoenix Goodyear Airport apron pavement, buy heavy-duty transit buses, and extend citywide pavement marking service. It would also buy 26 parcels along W. Osborn Road between 43rd and 35th avenues for roadway work. And it wants to apply for federal Advanced Transportation Technology and Innovation funds, take an ADOT encroachment permit in District 4, hire engineers for the Laveen flood mitigation program, and dedicate city land for roadway use in District 2.

Smaller cities round out the week. Tolleson would raise its Lyft transit cap from $400,000 to $650,000 a year and extend the deal to June 2027. Avondale would move $60,000 and set $110,000 in spending authority for a HAWK pedestrian signal on Lower Buckeye Road, and Mesa would annex 0.38 acres of county right-of-way on South Signal Butte Road. Scottsdale also has three state highway-safety grants: $70,000 for pedestrian and bicycle safety overtime, $80,000 for traffic enforcement, and $150,000 for DUI enforcement and education. Across the region the theme repeats: fix the pavement, clear the way for road projects, and add transit and safety programs.
