Phoenix leaders are set to vote on buying vacant land for a future fire station. The parcel sits at the northwest corner of N. 25th Street and E. Greenway Road in District 2, an area the station would serve. The same meeting takes up agreements with the state for the 9-1-1 program and a fiscal year 2026 agreement to stay in the national Urban Search & Rescue system.

The Phoenix council also weighs new police public records fees and higher staffing levels, with a $10 flat fee for commercial records requests, $16.50 per 911 recording and $4 per photo under Attachment A. It would also let the city apply for federal Homeland Security grant funds.

Scottsdale's Sept. 22 agenda carried seven public safety grants. Three of them would pay police overtime for traffic work: $150,000 for DUI enforcement and education, $70,000 for pedestrian and bicycle safety, and $80,000 for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program. The other four come from the Arizona Department of Homeland Security: up to $553,808 for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear training and equipment, up to $600,000 for mobile command vehicle upgrades, $70,620 for two handheld drug identification devices, and up to $55,500 for the regional Threat Liaison Officer program.

Tolleson's agenda included a cooperative purchase from Motorola Solutions that would move the police department's five dispatch consoles to the CommandCentral AXS platform and replace a site controller nearing the end of its service life, at a proposed cost of $442,064.63. The town also proclaimed Fire Prevention Week, focused on lithium-ion battery fires, and First Responder Suicide Prevention Awareness Week. Tempe bundled firefighter turnouts, emergency medical supplies and vehicle barriers into its consent agenda and set first hearings on police code changes and a fire fund transfer — a week mostly about keeping crews staffed, equipped and able to answer the call.
