Mesa is set to lock in a regional reimbursement worth nearly $8 million for rebuilding Country Club Drive between U.S. 60 and Southern Avenue. The $11,408,112 project gets 70% back from the Maricopa Association of Governments, leaving the city an estimated $3,422,434 for new pavement, accessible sidewalks and a signalized pedestrian crossing about 850 feet south of Southern Avenue. Mesa also has an agreement with Queen Creek and Maricopa County to shift right-of-way control around the Sossaman Road and Germann Road intersection and the Union Pacific railroad crossing.

Phoenix's Nov. 4 agenda pushes several projects forward at once. The city wants to seek final design and construction bids for the 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street bus rapid transit corridor, build three HAWK pedestrian crossings — signals that stop traffic so people can walk — in Districts 4, 7 and 8, and lower speed limits at 10 locations after traffic studies.

Phoenix would also award a citywide streetlight maintenance contract, clean bus stops and transit centers, modernize elevators and escalators at the Sky Harbor Rental Car Center, take flood district money for a 35th Avenue and Dobbins Road storm drain, keep taxicab service at the airport, maintain vehicle barriers and security gates, and sign two Salt River Project land use licenses tied to the pedestrian crossings — one in District 8 and one in District 6.

Mesa would also approve a $17.8 million flood-control cost share with the Flood Control District of Maricopa County for basins and storm drains along Pecos Road, an item that appears again on the Nov. 2 agenda as Resolution No. 12582, and would defer some Pecos Road work for MGC Pure Chemicals, award a new traffic-signal LED replacement contract, buy signal LED modules and service storm drain pumps. Elsewhere, Fountain Hills commissioners take up a work group on Golden Eagle Boulevard safety, Flagstaff's inclusion commission is weighing a dedicated ADA budget, ADA property priorities and universal design standards, and Flagstaff planners take up a regional plan change that realigns roads. The through-line: this is the week cities line up money, contracts and jurisdiction so work can move from the drawing board to the street.
