10. APPOINT A JUSTICE OF THE PEACE FOR THE SAN TAN JUSTICE COURT Pursuant to A.R.S. §11-251(16) and the vacancy created by the resignation of Samuel T. Goodman, Justice of the Peace, San Tan Justice Court, consider nominations and make an appointment to fill the vacancy for a Justice of the Peace for the San Tan Justice Precinct. Such appointment shall be effective January 11, 2023 . (C-06-23-430-X-00) Chairman Gates said one of the important roles as the Board of Supervisors is filling vacancies in different positions. He took item # 10 out of order to appoint a Justice of the Peace for the San Tan Justice Court. Supervisor Sellers said there were four viable candidates with individual strengths, and any of them would have been a benefit to the C ourts. He took the time to speak to each on e and decided to move forward with a candidate who has many years of Judicial experience and has served as a Justice of the Peace Pro Tem since 2008. The candidate’s experience will allow him to contribute to the position immediately. Supervisor Sellers made a motion to appoint Sherwood Johnston III as the Justice of the Peace for the San Tan Justice Court. Supervisor Galvin seconded the motion.
