6. SEPTEMBER NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH Presentation regarding the National Preparedness Month. At the conclusion of the presentation, approve The National Preparedness Month Resolution. Pete Weaver, Director The Department of Emergency Management will begin with a general overview of the need for household preparedness in Maricopa County. Maricopa County will be joining local governments and state agencies around the country in recognizing September as Preparedness Month. A recent survey of county residents revealed that 40% have done nothing to prepare to shelter themselves in their homes for any length of time and 60% responded that they have done nothing to prepare for an evacuation. With the advent of the H1N1 flu, the concept of personal preparedness has taken on additional meaning and the importance of raising awareness within our community continues to grow. (C-15-10-002-P-00)
