33. AMENDMENT TO TWO-YEAR LOCAL WORKFORCE INVESTMENT PLAN 2008-2010 FOR MARICOPA WORKFORCE CONNECTIONS ACTIVITIES Approve a non-financial amendment to the Two-Year Local Workforce Investment Plan 2008-2010 (C-22-08-189-M) for Maricopa Workforce Connections (MWC). Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) issued a Guidance Letter clarifying the definitions of “Limited” and “Unlimited” funding as they pertain to the disbursement of Workforce Investment Act (WIA) training funds. The existing MWC Two Year Plan does not conform to those definitions set forth by DES. Technical changes to the Two-Year Local Workforce Investment Plan 2008-2010 in the ‘Priority of Services’ area will ensure compliance with WIA guidelines. Maricopa County, exclusive of the City of Phoenix, is a designated Local Workforce Investment Area (LWIA) under the federal WIA Title, 1B Federal Grant program of 1998. As a LWIA, Maricopa County enters into Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) with DES for WIA activities administered by the Human Services Department Workforce Development Division, Maricopa Workforce Connections. At the direction of the U.S. Department of Labor, DES oversees Arizona’s WIA state plan. (C-22-08-189-M-02)
