By approving this item delivery of community action agency services will be reinstated within the Tempe city limits under Maricopa County Community Action Agency effective July 1, 2014. Request approval of the Resolution reinstating service delivery within the Tempe city limits. Maricopa County provides Community Action Agency services for low income individuals and families in Tempe and all other communities in the County except Phoenix, Mesa, and Glendale. The City of Tempe had notified Maricopa County of their desire to be designated as a separate Community Action Agency. The Board of Supervisors passed a resolution ceasing the provision of Community Action services in Tempe effective June 30, 2014 and notified the Department of Economic Security (DES), the agency that designates the official Community Action Agency areas. On April 17, 2014 DES canceled the process for designating Tempe as a separate Community Action Agency and notified the Human Services Department that funding for Tempe services would continue to be allocated to Maricopa County.
