66. SET A PUBLIC HEARING - RATE INCREASE IN CASE MANAGEMENT FEE Pursuant to A.R.S. §11-251.08, set a public hearing for April 27, 2011 to solicit comments and consider the adoption of proposed increase in the case management fee from $10 to $20. Upon Board approval, this item will become effective June 1, 2011. The fee increase is assessed upon the filing of the initial complaint and answer/response in all civil cases and is deposited by the Justice Courts in a special revenue fund with the Maricopa County Treasurer. This rate increase is necessary since Justice Court special revenue fund balances have been exhausted and county general funds do not currently meet the critical staffing and operating needs of the Desert Ridge, Highland, Hassayampa, and Estrella Mountain Justice Courts, the Department is addressing these issues by recommending this fee increase. The demand placed on these Justice Courts has served to create a need for additional staffing to ensure quality judicial services are provided to litigants and their respective communities in a timely manner and reduce court case backlogs.
