29. REPLACEMENT OF A ONE-TIME VEHICLE TO THE FLEET Approve a one-time addition to the County fleet for one (1) vehicle to be purchased by the Equipment Services Department for use by the Juvenile Probation Department (JPD) for a total cost not to exceed $29,000. This vehicle purchase is replacing a one-time vehicle purchase which was declared non salvageable due to an accident. Additional operating costs are estimated to be approximately $5,000 per fiscal year. Vehicle and operating costs will be absorbed in the JPD General Fund operating budget. In addition, approve an exemption from County markings and issuance of non-governmental license plates per A.R.S. § 38-538.03 as this vehicle will be utilized in surveillance operations. Markings are detrimental to the mission. Upon approval of this agenda item and the purchase of the vehicle, vehicle information including year, make, model and vehicle identification number will be provided to the Clerk of Board. This vehicle will be retired at the end of its useful life with no funding from the general fund for the replacement. This vehicle will be assigned to the Juvenile Detention Alternative unit in the area of Juvenile Electronic Monitoring unit where the Surveillance Officers are in the community monitoring minors through welfare checks. If this vehicle is not replaced, it would be a significant detriment to the unit as Surveillance Officers routinely go out in the field to perform the duties associated with their positions.
