34. OFFICE OF THE MEDICAL EXAMINER REQUEST FOR REVIEW OVER BASELINE The Office of the Medical Examiner is seeking an exception to the FY 2018 Budget Guidelines and Priorities instructions that would allow the Office of Management & Budget to review and study the following requests (by fund and budget amounts) over the FY 2018 baseline budget allocations for the FY 2018 budget appropriations: Fund 100 General Fund, $440,634; General Fund (Fund 100): $238,702 for Medical Examiner $113,932 for Deputy Chief Toxicologist $60,000 for Decedent Transportation Services $28,000 for Outside Laboratory Services As the jurisdictional caseload for the department has increased 17% (809 cases) in the last twelve months over the previous twelve months, the Medical Examiner is needed to stay below the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) accreditation maximum caseload per Medical Examiner as well as become compliant with the NAME accreditation turnaround time to close cases. The addition of the Deputy Chief Toxicologist is needed for operational continuity in the toxicology lab and the department. 90 percent of laboratory results need to be certified within 60 days so that the Medical Examiners have 30 days to complete their cases to meet NAME accreditation turnaround time. As the jurisdictional caseload for the department has increased 17% (809 cases) in the last twelve months over the previous twelve months, the percentage of specialized outside laboratory testing and decedent transportation services has increased and the additional funding is needed.
