30. APPLICATION FOR TRADE NAMES AND TRADE MARKS AND APPLICATION FOR AMENDMENTS TO EXISTING PARK TRADE NAMES Authorize the application for new trade names and trade marks for Maricopa County Parks and Recreation and to apply for amendments to existing park trade names with the Arizona Secretary of State. On November 19, 2003, the Board of Supervisors approved Maricopa County Parks and Recreation to apply for trade names for 11 parks (Agenda Item C-30-04-009-M-00). During a recent search of these names through the Arizona Secretary of State’s registered trade name database, discrepancies were identified with the assigned legal name for the holder of the trade names. This action will allow Maricopa County Parks and Recreation to prepare and submit applications for amendments to existing trade names on behalf of the County to reflect the correct holder of each trade name. In addition, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation requests approval to prepare and submit applications for trade names and trade marks on behalf of the County for the following: Trade Names: Protect-a-Park Pleasant Paddlers Program Lake Pleasant Regional Park Dam Good Run, Walk, Hike Dust Devil Series Maricopa Trail Estrella Mountain Golf Course Trademarks for the following locations: Adobe Dam Regional Park Buckeye Hills Regional Park Cave Creek Regional Park The Desert Outdoor Center Estrella Mountain Regional Park Lake Pleasant Regional Park McDowell Mountain Regional Park San Tan Mountain Regional Park Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area Usery Mountain Regional Park White Tank Mountain Regional Park Protect-a-Park Maricopa Trail The need for official names – trade names – includes internal consistency, external control, exclusive naming right, marketing and promotion, and protection from the business community.
