59. APPLICATIONS FOR PRICKLY PEDAL TRADE NAME AND TRADEMARK FOR THE MARICOPA STAGE RACE Authorize the Chairman to sign the Prickly Pedal trade name and trademark applications for submission to the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office and authorize the County, through its Parks and Recreation Director to sign future renewal applications. Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department and the Maricopa Trail and Park Foundation are working together to host special events along the Maricopa Trail. One such signature event is the Prickly Pedal on the Maricopa Trail, which the agencies have worked on in conjunction with Supervisorial District 3’s Office. Prior to rolling out marketing materials for the event, the Parks and Recreation Department is recommending that the trade name and trademark be registered with the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office. This will ensure internal consistency, external control, exclusive naming rights, marketing and promotion, and protection of the brand. The applications will be registered with Maricopa County as the primary owner for the trademark and trade name. A search was conducted through the Arizona Secretary of State's registered trade name database and no conflict was found. (C-30-15-031-M-00)
