15. 2009 TITLE II-A GRANT (IMPROVING EDUCATOR QUALITY – 2009 AZ ESA PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT) Approve the Application for and the acceptance of $144,818.86 for the 2009 AZ ESA Professional Development Project (2009 Title II-A Teacher and Principal Recruiting Fund) from the US Department of Education (USDE) for targeted teachers of middle school science in Maricopa County. The term of the contract will be 14-months, anticipated to begin July 1, 2008, through August 31, 2009. This grant is non-renewable. MCSOS’s indirect rate for FY 2009 is 19.50 percent. The restricted indirect cost rate allowed by this grant source is 0.00 percent. Recoverable indirect costs are $0. The restricted indirect cost rate unallowable by this grant source is 19.50 percent. Unrecoverable indirect costs on this award are $28,239.68. Grant revenues are not local revenues for the purpose of the constitutional expenditure limitation, and therefore, expenditures of these revenues are not prohibited by the budget law. This budget adjustment does not alter the budget constraining the expenditures of local revenues duly adopted by the Board pursuant to A.R.S. §42-17105. This 14-month grant from the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) will provide training for teachers in Maricopa County who do not, or will not by the state-imposed deadline, have the appropriate credentials to teach the subject and grade level to which they are assigned. It is the objective of this grant program to provide these teachers with professional development to help them gain those credentials, with an emphasis on middle school Mathematics and Science. Also, this grant program will provide some content instruction expenses. (C-37-09-013-G-00)
