A-3. NEW POLICY ON PROVISION OF BENEFITS FOR SURVIVING SPOUSES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY Approve a new Policy, HR 2434, “Public Safety Survivor Benefit,” which establishes Maricopa County’s standards as required by A.R.S. § 38-1114 and provide payments for health insurance premiums for the surviving Spouse and Dependents of a Law Enforcement Officer who was killed in the line of duty or who died from injuries suffered in the line of duty. A.R.S. § 38-1103 (re-numbered to A.R.S. § 38-1114 in 2014) was changed effective September 13, 2013 to expand the requirement that employers provide health benefits to the surviving spouses and minor children of law enforcement officers who are killed in the line of duty or who die as the result of injuries incurred in the line of duty. The policy clarifies how Maricopa County will comply with the statute. (C-39-15-008-6-00)
