12. RETIREMENT AND TRANSFER OF SHERIFF'S K-9, "GATOR," TO HANDLER Pursuant to A.R.S 11-251(9), approve the permanent retirement and transfer of custody of K-9 Unit dog, “Gator," (K97) to his respective Sheriff’s Office handler. Gator is seven years old and failed his annual certification in July 2008. He underwent extensive training in an attempt to improve his ability to differentiate scents, but failed the certification test again in January 2009. Gator is no longer able to serve his useful purpose in law enforcement and the Sheriff's Office recommends Board of Supervisors approval to release Gator to his handler. (C-50-09-067-M-00)
