16. IMPOUNDED BICYCLES TO CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS Pursuant to A.R.S. §11-251(58), approve the sale of surplus bicycles from the Sheriff’s Impound Lot at less than fair market value to be used for the express purpose of refurbishment and repair so they can be given to children and individuals supported by these charitable organizations: a) Mr. John C. Fowler, for El Zaribah Shrine, a 501c(3) Non-Profit Organization benefiting Shriner’s Hospitals for Children; b) the AZ Association of Foster and Adoptive Parents; and c) the Society of St. Vincent De Paul. The current lot of surplus bicycles will be divided equally among three requesting charitable organizations for $1.00 per organization. The Sheriff’s Office collects approximately 80-120 abandoned bicycles per year from the various patrol districts. The bicycles, in all states of disrepair, are taken to the Impound lot and held for 90 days. After 90 days, they are subject to disposal. This action allows the bicycles to be given to the charitable organizations that have requested them for use in charitable causes. This item requires a unanimous vote from the Board of Supervisors.
