ENTITLEMENT FUNDS FROM ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE 2017 COUNTY JAILS EDUCATION PROGRAM Approve acceptance of $124,015.86 in continued funding from the Arizona Department of Education, FY2017 County Jails Education Program for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Jail Education Program. These revenues are not local revenues for the purpose of the constitutional expenditure limitation, and therefore, expenditures of these revenues are not prohibited by the budget law. The Sheriff’s Office indirect cost rate for FY17 is 19.8%. Unrecoverable indirect costs associated with this funding are estimated to be $24,555.14 These funds are used primarily to purchase supplies and services used for the Sheriff’s Office Jail Education Program that is mandated for all prisoners who are under the age of 18 and prisoners with disabilities who are under the age of 21 or younger who are confined in the County jail. The funding is based on student count that is submitted to the Arizona Department of Education each year. The Sheriff’s Office has participated in the County Jails Education Program for many years.
