13. PARTICIPATION IN DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS JOB TRAINING BENEFITS PROGRAM FOR MCSO EMPLOYEES Authorize the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (“MCSO”) to participate in the Department of Veterans Affairs (“VA”) Job Training Benefits Program (the “Program”). Approve the attached forms and agreements, Exhibits A-J or substantially similar documents (“Forms”). Authorize the Sheriff or his designee to execute the Forms to facilitate qualified employees’ participation in the Program. VA benefits are available to advance the education and skills of veterans and service members and enrollment in an accredited training program may qualify them for assistance in the form of a monetary stipend. With this agenda item, the Board of Supervisors is authorizing submission of Program enrollment forms and agreements required by the VA in order to allow MCSO to facilitate the application for and award of such benefits to eligible veterans and service members who are training at the MCSO Training Academy. The MCSO training academy qualifies for certain academic credit through the Maricopa County, Rio Salado Community College. The attached forms and agreements, Exhibits A-J, or substantially similar, must be submitted by MCSO to certify eligibility for VA education and training assistance. (C-50-17-102-M-00)
