16. TEMPORARY ONE-TIME ADDITIONS TO FLEET FOR HOLIDAY MALL PATROL Authorize Equipment Services to retain up to 18 serviceable vehicles scheduled to be taken out of the Sheriff’s Office and County-wide fleet so they can be used for the 2017 Holiday Mall Patrol season which begins November 23, 2017 and concludes January 1, 2018. Fuel costs are estimated to be $3,500 and an allowance of up to $500 per vehicle for any necessary repair to put the vehicle into service will be funded by the Sheriff’s Office (500) General Fund (100). Also approve the retention of five (5) of the 18 vehicles at the conclusion of Holiday Mall Patrol to establish a loaner fleet for when Sheriff’s vehicles are out of commission for repair or service. Approval of this item allows the Sheriff’s Office to assemble a temporary fleet of enforcement vehicles in anticipation of increased activity at the malls throughout the Valley during the holiday shopping season. The increased presence is intended to deter crime, enhance response times of sworn deputies, and increase overall public safety. Approval of the continuing loaner fleet of five vehicles ensures dependable vehicles available for intermittent use when Sheriff's vehicles are being serviced or repaired. (C-50-18-018-V-00)
