17. DISPOSAL OF AMMUNITION Approve the transfer and disposal of approximately 5,200 pounds of ammunition with unknown origin to Kings Firearms of Columbia, Tennessee. This ammo is currently stored at MCSO Property and Evidence and was acquired under following conditions: a) impounded for destruction, b) found, or c) abandoned as a result of safekeeping or case adjudication. The estimated value of this ammunition is $1,000, it is not usable by the Sheriff’s Office for any purpose, and there is no means to dispose of it. Kings Firearms is on contract with Maricopa County and MCSO has been working with OPS on this matter. Kings Firearms will pay the freight and plans to recycle the brass to recover its cost. Recycling was researched by MCSO and is not feasible. A cost estimate of $15,000 was provided by County Risk Management Recycle to handle disposal of this ammunition. THIS ITEM REQUIRES THE UNANIMOUS CONSENT OF THE BOARD. (C-50-19-072-M-00)
