22. TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP OF RETIRING K-9 – LEX Approve the transfer of ownership of retiring K-9, Lex, #K145, to Sergeant John Davison, #S1038. Lex is approximately 8 years old. Lex has been assigned and working along the side of Sgt. Davison for about 6.5 years as a dual-purpose Explosive Detection and Patrol Canine. Lex was recently diagnosed with an infection due to location and severity deemed inoperable and will be treated with lifelong antibiotic that will not cure and Lex will not regain his biting grip. Also, Lex also has a terminal disease affecting his teeth. Since the veterinarian visit and bill of health, Lex was placed on inactive status immediately for the health and safety of Lex and his handler Davison and the public. Sergeant Davison has created a strong bond with Lex over the years as his handler/partner and will accept full care and financial responsibility for Lex upon adoption and will be asked to sign the Canine Release and Indemnification.
