31. AFFILIATION AGREEMENT WITH STAUTZENBERGER COLLEGE EDUCATION CORPORATION FOR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM Approve the Affiliation Agreement with Stautzenberger College Education Corporation dba Brown Mackie College-Phoenix to allow Public Defense Services to provide criminal justice training and experience for students in the Brown Mackie Criminal Justice program. The proposed internship program will provide the offices in PDS with additional resources at no cost to Maricopa County. The agreement is non-financial, and the term is to be from October 26, 2015 through October 25, 2016. Approval of this agenda item will serve as Board authorization and acceptance of individual internship agreements entered into with Brown Mackie College through October 25, 2016. The offices in PDS, if approved for this action, will be authorized to have intern(s) assigned from the Brown Mackie College and to execute all necessary individual student agreements and documentation through October 25, 2016. At that time, continued Board approval of the program may be requested. No compensation will be provided by Maricopa County to the intern(s). In providing services to a PDS office, the intern(s) shall be deemed to be volunteer(s) of the office. There are no notable costs associated with the internship program; therefore there is no need for recovery of indirect costs. Experienced investigative staff employed by the PDS offices will serve as the supervisors and mentors for intern(s) provided by Brown Mackie College. All services to be provided by the intern(s) shall be performed under the direct supervision, direction, and control of a supervising investigator. Suitable office space and administrative and other support services will be provided by the offices for the intern(s). The intern(s) shall be subject to all of the departmental policies, procedures, and practices except as provided with respect to compensation and benefits or as otherwise determined by the departments. Maricopa County shall cover the intern(s) and the services provided by the intern(s) under any applicable risk insurance policies on the same basis as a volunteer of the department.
