22. VISTA VOLUNTEER FOR DEFENDING COMMUNITIES IN SERVICE PROGRAM Authorize the Office of the Legal Defender to host a VISTA Volunteer for one year as part of the National Legal Aid and Defender Association’s (NLADA) Defending Communities in Service program. With this agenda item, the Board of Supervisors is approving, in substantial form, a contract template as described in the attachment. The Legal Defender’s Office will be authorized to host a VISTA Volunteer and to execute all necessary individual contracts for a one year time period beginning on October 15, 2018, and ending on October 14, 2019. All final contracts will be forwarded to the Clerk of the Board’s Office. There is a one-time cost of $6,300 to be paid from departmental budget, ($4,300 for NLADA annual membership and $2,000 to participate in the program). There are also two mandatory trainings which one or more Legal Defender staff are required to attend. The training costs will be paid through the Public Defender Training Fund. (C-56-18-005-M-01)
