21. IGA WITH THE TOWN OF BUCKEYE FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE MILLER ROAD BRIDGE AND CANAL Approve the Intergovernmental Agreement (Agreement) between Maricopa County (County) and the Town of Buckeye (Town) for improvements to the Miller Road Bridge and Canal at the Buckeye Water Conservation and Drainage District Canal (BWCDD). The cost of the project is $1,100,000 of which the County is paying 100% in exchange for Buckeye’s annexation of the project roadway. Funding for the project will be programmed in FY 2013-14 in the Transportation Department (640) Transportation Capital Projects Fund (234) Bridge Preservation (BRIG) Project, Sub-Project T304. The project consists of replacing the Miller Road bridge superstructure and adjusting the road and bridge profile to accommodate the future ultimate five-lane road design. A concrete lining for the BWCDD will also be installed at, and adjacent to, the bridge. And portions of the foundations of an older bridge, located under the existing bridge, will be removed. This agreement is necessary because the BWCDD canal, originally constructed in 1979, is in need of repair and maintenance. Additionally, to accommodate increased traffic in the not-too-distant future, this project will assure the ability to build the road to the ultimate five-lane road design.
