80. BID AND AWARD FOR CONSTRUCTION OF INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS AT MC 85 AND AVONDALE BLVD Approve the solicitation of bids for the Maricopa County Department of Transportation’s construction of the intersection improvements at MC 85 and Avondale Blvd including asphalt concrete pavement, traffic signals, new striping and signing. Award the contract to the lowest responsive bidder, provided that the lowest responsive bidder does not exceed the Engineer’s estimate by more than ten percent. Funds will be budgeted through the Transportation Department (640) Transportation Capital Projects fund (234) Traffic Improvements (TIMP) Project, Sub-Project T391. The subject project was undertaken as the UPRR railway crossing warrants surface and warning devices improvements and are planned to be funded through Section 130 Federal Program. UPRR will improve the railroad crossing concurrently with the intersection improvements using Section 130 federal funds. The Arizona Department of Transportation will pay the railroad directly for the cost of the improvements. The City of Avondale approached MCDOT in February of 2011 to discuss further upgrading the intersection by widening the north and east legs to add capacity to the intersection. The construction cost shown above are only for the intersection improvements which will be paid for by MCDOT and the City of Avondale. The City of Avondale’s portion of the construction cost is estimated to be $458,823 with the County paying the balance of the construction cost. Supervisorial District 5. (C-64-15-085-M-00)
