71. CHANGE IN TRAFFIC CONTROLS ON SAN TAN BOULEVARD Approve a change in traffic controls (Speed Limits) on unincorporated right-of-way at the following locations: A 40 MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONE (from a 45 MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONE) on San Tan Boulevard from 172ND Street to Recker Road. (This rescinds the 45 MPH speed limit zone dated October 19th, 2005 and the 45 MPH speed limit zone dated July 11TH , 1988). A 40 MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONE (from a 35 MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONE) on San Tan Boulevard from Recker Road to Power Road. (This rescinds the 35 MPH speed limit zone dated May 29TH, 1973). A 40 MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONE (from a 45 MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONE) on San Tan Boulevard from Power Road to Sossaman Road. (This rescinds the 45 MPH speed limit zone dated May 29TH, 1973). A 40 MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONE (from a 50 MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONE) on San Tan Boulevard from Sossaman Road to Ellsworth Road. (This rescinds the 50 MPH speed limit zone dated July 7TH, 1989). This agenda item is the result of a request from the residents to lower the speed limit due to the high speed of motorist in the area. A speed study was conducted on San Tan Blvd and it was determined that a lower speed will improve the overall safety of the residents and motorists. Installing speed limits that are closer to the average speed and keeping a single consistent posted speed along San Tan Blvd will provide an overall reduction of vehicle traveling speed.
