L-14. FREEGAL SERVICES TO MARICOPA COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARIES FOR ACCESS TO SONGS Approve the distribution of Freegal to all public libraries in Maricopa County. Library Ideas, LLC, a media company focused on Public Libraries, has an agreement with Sony Music Entertainment to provide its network of Public Library websites with access to songs from Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists. The service, called Freegal, allows libraries to increase the size and diversity of library collections by offering access to an incredibly expansive and popular catalog of hundreds of thousands of songs. Under terms of the agreement, registered card holders of participating libraries access the service through their local library website and download a select number of Sony Music tracks in the MP3 format each month at no direct cost. The total annual cost for this service is $247,690.00. Freegal delivers great music, compatibility with lots of devices and simplicity of use. A library is a focal point of the community that requires many tools to excite people about library resources. More than anything, that is the reason for this service; to reach new customer segments for digital music. This is incredibly popular with our customers and will help the library in marketing all its services to the community. (C-65-12-006-M-00)
