39. MARICOPA COUNTY ENVIRONMENTALLY PREFERRED PURCHASING PROGRAM Approve an Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Policy (EPP) for Maricopa County. The County’s Sustainability Manager, Materials Management, and numerous County departments and agencies have worked together to develop the attached EPP policy for the procurement of environmentally preferred products and services, when price and all other evaluation criteria established by the using departments are equal. The objective of the policy is to allow Maricopa County to actively work to procure commodities and services that protect the overall environment, reduce consumption, reduce waste and provides a measurable reduction in the carbon footprint for all Maricopa County operations within practical and budgetary constraints. Maricopa County has been and continues to be a recognized leader in the sustainability arena and this policy furthers our commitment to that cause. This policy will allow the inclusion of environmental considerations in the procurement process to improve employee and customer health and safety, reduce the consumption of scarce natural resources and help to safeguard our County's future generations.
