1. PRESENTATION OF THE CHAIRMAN'S AWARD TO THE BOARD MEMBERS OF FRIENDS OF ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL Presentation regarding the Chairman's Award by Andy Kunasek, Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to the board members of Friends of Animal Care and Control (FACCs) for their outstanding service to the public. Andrew Kunasek, Chairman of the Board Friends of Animal Care & Control’s (FACCs’), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit fundraising organization, mission is to end euthanasia of healthy and adoptable cats and dogs in Maricopa County by raising funds to support the Maricopa County Spay/Neuter Assistance Program operated by Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. FACCs has donated $3,717,422 to fund the Maricopa County Spay/Neuter Assistance Program from FY2006 through FY2011. There were 58,165 pets sterilized as a result of their owners taking advantage of this “free” program. Sterilization stops the birth of unwanted puppies and kittens, reduces the number of stray and loose animals, the spread of disease, and public safety risks caused by roaming, loose pets. It also reduces the number of animals brought to local animal shelters and the resulting senseless euthanasia. The Board of Supervisors approved all funding as it was received throughout FY2008 through FY2011. (C-79-12-072-P-00) PRESENTATION AND ACTION
