105. INCREASE IN FLEET FOR MARICOPA COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICE OF VITAL REGISTRATION Maricopa County Department of Public Health – Office of Vital Registration’s (OVR) Indigent Decedent Services Program requests a one-time addition to fleet for execution of program activities. Added to the fleet will be the purchase of a mid-size, SUV estimated at $31,500 (including taxes and fees). The vehicle will be used by the Office of Vital Registration (OVR) for official business activities. Funding for the vehicle is Department of Public Health (860), Public Health Fee Fund (265) Non-recurring Non-Project (NRNP). Maricopa County Department of Public Health – Office of Vital Registration’s Indigent Decedent Services Program requests to purchase a vehicle for activities related to the COVID-19 response mission. The County Indigent Decedent Services Program (CIDS) does not own a vehicle to meet the daily needs of executing CIDS activities. Since the CIDS program transitioned from the Public Fiduciary to OVR, the program employees have been either utilizing personal vehicles or borrowing a vehicle from one of OVR’s other sites/units if available. The OVR has not ceased any aspect of its in-person, mail and or online mandated services across all five of its sites to the community and throughout the county so its need for continued travel remains. Therefore, the OVR does not have an existing vehicle to permanently allocate for the CIDS use. The CIDS uses a vehicle to move mission equipment and supplies, retrieve and transport decedent personal property, collection and reimbursement for disposition services rendered and to accept/sign for custody of each decedent cremains being released to the CIDS program for interment at the White Tanks Cemetery. This program activity requires travel throughout Maricopa County in support of the following activities: Moving equipment, supplies and property between various locations performing indigent decedent related services in support of Maricopa County’s mandated and contractual requirements. This includes but is not limited to travel to/from healthcare facilities, funeral establishments, financial institutions and White Tanks Cemetery. Acquisition of this vehicle will allow the CIDS program to support its mandated and contracted partners perform the timely disposition of indigent and abandoned decedents who pass away in Maricopa County and ensure that Maricopa County and its partners do not experience another surge in its resources and decedent capacity. The vehicle will also be used for other activities in continued support of the COVID-19 mission. Maricopa County Department of Public Health and the Office of Vital Registration’s CIDS program are responsible for the insurance, operational costs and maintenance of this vehicle.
