37. ACCEPT GRANT FUNDS FOR REPAIRS TO THE ALMA SCHOOL BRIDGE Accept a federal grant in the amount of $1,542,964 for repairs to the Alma School Bridge which was damaged by flooding in 2005. Authorize to accept the funds in Fiscal Year 2009-10 in the Public Works (910) Transportation Capital Projects Fund (234) Bridge Preservation Project (BRIG), Sub-Project T142, Alma School Bridge. In January 2005 the Alma School north bridge was damaged by water releases of approximately 30,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) from Bartlett and Horseshoe reservoirs. The repairs were eligible for federal reimbursement and since that time staff has been trying to get the repair costs reimbursed. Staff persistence paid off and in March 2010 two invoices were submitted to Arizona Department of Transportation and payment received in the amount of $1,542,964. A review of the records indicates that board permission was never requested to accept the grant since at the time of the repair conversations with both ADOT and the Federal Highway Administration indicated that the likelihood of receiving federal funds for the repair costs was negligible.
