STAFF PRESENTATION Kevin Weight, staff, stated that he was presenting in his capacity as a staff member with the City’s Historic Preservation Office, and as a representative for the applicant, which in this case is the Historic Preservation Commission. Mr. Weight stated that the intent was not to change anything other than to make the property historic. Mr. Weight oriented the Committee to the site and the surrounding area. Mr. Weight stated that the property was 1.34 acres in size and included four separate buildings that contribute to the historic character of the site. Mr. Weight discussed each building and provided a brief background. Mr. Weight stated there was a fifth building on the site that was demolished in 1994 to make room for a parking lot associated with John C. Lincoln Hospital. Mr. Weight provided a summary of the history of the Sunnyslope area and discussed how the Presbyterian Church fit into that history. Mr. Weight discussed the subsequent decline in church membership that led to a reduction in services such as day care, the ultimate closure of the church in 2014, and the subsequent purchase of the property by the Franklins for use as a charter school in 2016. Mr. Weight stated that the current owners had submitted the required Proposition 207 form allowing the Historic Preservation Commission to initiate the proposed overlay. Mr. Weight reviewed the eligibility criteria for the Historic Preservation Overlay and stated that the site included one of the oldest intact buildings in Sunnyslope and reflects the early post-World War II development in Sunnyslope. QUESTIONS FROM THE COMMITTEE None PUBLIC COMMENT Julia Taggart stated that the owner was not present but that the owner had asked that she present the history of the site to the committee. Ms. Taggart provided a presentation including historic photographs of the site, building, and the surrounding area, and outlining the history of the site. MOTION: Committee Member Elizabeth Pérez-Pawloski motioned to recommend approval of Z-68-25-3, per the staff recommendation. Committee Member Steve Pamperin seconded the motion. VOTE: 13-0, motion to recommend approval of Z-68-25-3, per the staff recommendation, passes with Committee Members Barraza, Carmona, Edwards, Harris, Hepperle, Jaramillo, Knapp, Larson, O’Hara, Pamperin, Pérez-Pawloski, Sommacampagna, and Matthews in favor and none opposed. STAFF COMMENTS REGARDING VPC RECOMMENDATION: None.
