Head Start Recruitment Events 
Head Start Birth to Five staff participated in five community events during the month of 
February. Three events were hosted by elementary schools providing parents and 
residents with community resources, proper pediatric oral hygiene care, information about 
Head Start, and resources for English Language Learners. Of the other two events, City 
Council District 5 hosted a job and resource fair at Maryvale Community Center, and 
Desert Mission Food Bank hosted the 3rd Annual Heart of Sunnyslope Wellness 
Celebration. Head Start Birth to Five staff provided information about the program to more 
than 200 families. 
 
Head Start Presentation 
The Head Start Birth to Five Inclusion Specialists presented Head Start from the special 
education perspective to 14 students enrolled in the Young Exceptional Child/Learning 
Seminar Series at Paradise Valley Community College. The staff discussed how children 
with special education needs are included in Head Start classrooms, how the students 
receive special education services, and the positive impact inclusion has on all children.
