Community Events 
In August, the Head Start Birth to Five staff participated in four back-to-school events in 
Deer Valley Unified School District, Washington Elementary School District, and City of 
Phoenix Council Districts 5 and 7. Staff provided more than 550 families with information 
about the Head Start program and helped 18 families complete pre-registration forms. 
 
Parent Success Story 
A former Head Start parent who served as the Head Start Birth to Five Policy Council 
chair graduated from the Arizona College of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in 
Nursing. In her email announcing her graduation, she wrote, “Your unwavering 
encouragement has been a true driving force behind this accomplishment, and I can’t 
express my gratitude enough. I sincerely hope that my journey serves as a testament to 
the positive impact you make on our community. Your compassion and dedication shine 
through, and I am honored to be a reflection of the love you share with all of us. With my 
newfound degree, I aspire to become an extension of your incredible work, focusing on 
providing essential medical assistance to our younger generations.” 
 
 
2023 Annual Pre-Service 
The Head Start Birth to Five Program held its annual pre-service event on August 30 at 
the Phoenix Convention Center for more than 550 Head Start staff. Attendees engaged 
with the keynote speaker, who discussed group connections and participated in specific 
learning tracks focused on areas of expertise in the afternoon. Staff will use the learned 
information in their daily work.
