Attachment D Program Information Summaries Community Outreach Events Head Start Birth to Five Program staff participated in eight community events in July held by the City of Phoenix Council Districts 5 and 7, the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, and Maricopa County District 5. Residents were given backpacks, school supplies, and community resource information. Staff assisted over 50 families in filling out pre-applications and provided information to over 2,000 residents about Head Start. Head Start Annual Pre-Service The Head Start Birth to Five Annual Pre-Service was held at Desert Willow Conference Center for over 550 Head Start staff. This event is an annual kick-off to the new school year and provides teachers, instructional assistants, caseworkers, and other staff professional development relevant to their area of expertise. The sessions focused on various topics aimed at building relationships, the positive impact fathers have on a child's development, child and adult wellbeing, and teaching children about resiliency. Attendees will use this information to create nurturing learning environments for children and inclusive workplaces for adults. Education and Training A boot camp for children's social and emotional development was held at Desert Willow Conference Center for over 25 Education Service Providers and Child Care Partner administrators. The event's purpose was to ensure administrators understand and promote the evidence-based Pyramid Model, a conceptual framework of evidence-based practices for promoting young children's healthy social and emotional development. Administrators will support staff in using the strategies and techniques in the classroom to create a nurturing, caring, safe environment for children to learn. Four Head Start Birth to Five staff presented at the annual First 1,000 Days Conference hosted by the Region 9 Head Start Association in Las Vegas, Nevada. The topics of the presentations focused on using data to enhance home visiting and parental nurturance.
