Council to take action on Resolution No. 69-26 approving the FY2027 Drug, Gang, and Violent Crime
Control Program Grant Award between the City of Buckeye, an Arizona municipal corporation, and the
Arizona Criminal Justice Commission, to support drug, gang, and violent crime interdictions and
investigation efforts by the Buckeye Police Department personnel.

SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This grant supports drug investigation and interdiction efforts by Buckeye Police Department personnel
over a 12-month period. BPD personnel who engage in drug investigations and interdictions will be
selected based on their experience, productivity, and demonstrated performance. The core mission is to
conduct drug enforcement with a focus on identifying indicators of criminal enterprise activity. Over time,
the hope is to reduce drug-related crimes within Buckeye and the greater Phoenix region, as interdiction
efforts become more effective. This grant-funded personnel support will enable the Buckeye Police
Department to address the growing drug crimes and interdict when possible.
BENEFITS:
BPD anticipates a reduction in drug-related crimes through the grant-supported personnel’s interdiction
efforts. Through investigation and interdiction efforts, arrests for the manufacture, distribution, and
transportation of illegal/illicit drugs will increase. 
FUTURE ACTION:
After all grant funds have been expended within the 12-month grant period of performance, the City of
Buckeye will fund any other drug investigation and interdiction efforts from the General Fund as currently
budgeted, unless alternative funding opportunities arise, which the Grants Team will pursue.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT:
The grant award is $50,977.56 with a required match from the City of Buckeye of $16,992.51, over a 12-
month period. The grant amount and the match amount have been included in the fiscal year 2027
budget.

The fiscal year 2027 cost is $67,970.07, with $50,977.56 reimbursable by the grant. The grant amount
and the match amount have been included in the fiscal year 2027 budget.
