SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The City of Buckeye is updating the 2018 ITS Strategic Plan. The original plan was approved by City
Council in January 2018.  The 2026 ITS Strategic Plan is a guidance document to optimize the capacity
of the transportation system, improve safety, and reduce peak-hour delays on arterials by facilitating
active operation and management. The 2026 ITS Strategic Plan identifies strategies and tools that
enables the City to manage its transportation network more efficiently. It includes communications and
field technologies that are integrated into the transportation network such as traffic signals, cameras,
fiber optic communications, and the Transportation Management Center (TMC), as well as connectivity
to city buildings, water facilities, fire stations, parks and other vital city infrastructure. The plan details
specific fiber network expansion, future staffing needs, and other city departments involvement.
BENEFITS:
ITS infrastructure network optimizes the capacity of the transportation system, improve safety, and
reduce peak-hour delays on arterials by facilitating active operation and management of the
transportation network.
FUTURE ACTION:
There will be future Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects and pursuit of grants to install the
necessary infrastructure that will require City Council approval.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT:
The 2026 ITS Strategic Plan does not have an immediate financial impact; however, the Plan identifies
recommended CIP projects and operating expenses that will be considered during the development of
future budgets.
