Project Summary:
Achieving My Purpose believes in recognizing different health disparities and determinants among
women of color. The Purpose of Wellness for Her (POW HER) program serves young women, ages
18-to-30, from underrepresented or marginalized groups. It focuses on creating a positive impact on
health equity for women of color, single women, and women with disabilities.
The POW HER program empowers women to accept responsibility for their overall health and well-
being by equipping them with the necessary resources and tools to move beyond our program.
Narrative
The Purpose of Wellness for Her (POW HER) program aligns with Fort McDowell Yavapai
Nation’s healthcare initiative focusing focuses on addressing the health and wellness needs of
participants through an eight-week cohort. The program serves young women from underrepresented
or marginalized groups aiming to minimize health disparities throughout Maricopa County.
The POW HER program focuses on reducing the barriers and stigma experienced by women of color,
which often reduces their ability to access wellness services. The program also addresses social
determinants of health and aims to address the conditions that exist in the places where people live,
work, and play that can undermine an individual’s pursuit of optimal health and well-being.
The curriculum follows the National Wellness Institutes (NWI), a six-dimensional model of wellness.
The curriculum also reflects the principles of the NWI Multicultural Wellness model which are focused
on three pillars that support optimal well-being which includes Personal and Family Wellness,
Community wellness, and Worksite Wellness.
Through POW HER, women are provided a conscious, self-directed process that allows participants to
achieve their purpose and potential. The wellness models include physical, emotional, occupational,
social, spiritual, and intellectual well-being to build upon a holistic sense of wellness while
emphasizing personal responsibility and self-advocacy.
POW HER participants will benefit from the following through an eight-week cohort delivering its
programming through curriculum and workshops: 1) knowledge and skills on topics and issues that
are relevant to their lives; 2) building a network of meaningful relationships and support as they share
challenges and perspectives; and 3) through affirmations and strength from the group, the participants
will gain esteem, confidence, and skills to live according to their life’s purpose.
Achieving My Purpose (AMP) mission is to inform, inspire and empower women to achieve their
purpose. Women who face multiple health conditions, unemployment, or experience inequity, often
struggle to define their purpose and find it difficult to set and achieve their goals. Empowering women
with the knowledge, skills, and resources to achieve optimal well-being, establishes a firm foundation.

This foundation is essential for participants to be successful in other AMP programs and services,
including mentorships, externships, and leadership opportunities.
While there are other organizations that provide health and wellness programs, POW HER specifically
focuses on a targeted group of women, ages 18-to-30, from underrepresented or marginalized groups
to accept responsibility for their overall health and well-being by equipping them with the necessary
resources and tools moving beyond our program.
Partnerships
POW HER is in its implementation stage of the program, and AMP understands the importance and
effectiveness of community partnerships and collaborations to address the individual and specific
needs of the women we serve.

Timeline
In our 2023 fiscal year (January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023), 75 individuals through its POW HER
program through various cohorts.
The program coordinator will also track and evaluate the program and will conduct pre-and-post
surveys. The results will then be compiled after each cohort. The anticipated program outcomes are:
1) 80% of participants will report that POW HER helped address their health and wellness needs; 2)
95% of participants will report increased knowledge of their wellness in each tier of the National
Wellness Institute Six-Dimensional Model of Wellness and the Multicultural Wellness Model; and 3)
90% of participants will establish a personal wellness plan.
Successful delivery of the POW HER program requires the focus and attention of a program
coordinator to identify, coordinate, deploy, and evaluate the program. AMP has a business plan that
would generate revenue to eventually cover the cost of this position, however, it will take time to build
this revenue stream.
With Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation’s investment and partnership with other funders, it will allow for
Achieving My Purpose to continue to expand the POW HER program to reach more participants
throughout Maricopa County by the end of the fiscal year 2023.

Project Summary
The Housing Project is a six-unit, 26-bed transitional housing program that provides a safe place to reside,
basic provisions, and supportive services for youth, ages 18-to-24. Supportive services include: mental
health services, life skills, employment, education/trade skill opportunities, leadership development and
empowerment, and more.
The program serves underrepresented youth, ages 18-to-24, who are transitioning out of the Arizona foster
care system or on the verge of becoming unhoused from aging out of the system. The majority of
participants come to our program from group home placements, are unhoused, or are housing insecure.
Narrative
On average, 1-and-4 youth who age out of the foster care system will become homeless within four years.
There are more than 800 youth who transition out of Arizona's foster care system, yearly. Arizona continues
to be the leader in the number of children per capita in care with more than 600 children and youth being
removed from their homes per month and the number is increasing at a steady rate. This disrupts all aspects
of their life.
Nearly 85% of Arizona's aged-out foster youth struggle to find stable housing. For many, their transition to
adulthood and economic self-sustainability can be abrupt. As a result, many youth find themselves
unhoused or in the process of becoming unhoused.
Additionally, the Point-in-Time estimated nearly 625 unhoused youth, and Mesa has the 2nd highest overall
unhoused population of all municipalities in Maricopa County. Foster Arizona meets the needs of unhoused
youth through its Housing Project.
Foster Arizona Housing Project is a six-unit, 26-bed transitional housing program that provides a safe place
to reside, basic provisions, and supportive services for youth ages 18-to-24. The program serves
approximately 50 underrepresented youth, ages 18-to-24, who are transitioning out of the Arizona foster
care system or on the verge of becoming unhoused from aging out of the system. The majority of
participants come to our program from group home placements, are unhoused, or are housing insecure.
The Housing Project is designed to first meet the basic necessities (housing and basic provisions) of our
participants. Once participants are in stable housing, our program is then able to focus on supportive
services (mental health services, life skills, employment, education/trade, counseling support, and more).
Foster Arizona has seen an increase in the mental health needs of our youth served in its Housing Project,
and the foundational piece missing in helping navigate them is addressing the complex mental health care
needs that our youth face.
Aligning with Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation’s funding priority health, the Housing Project is expanding
its supportive services to include mental health services. The program was launched in response to the
expressed need for a higher level of experience and specialized trauma therapists to assist in the mental
health gaps that currently exist inside the state Medicaid program.

The program addresses the root causes of the client’s trauma, the barriers, and substance use. For our client
population, Foster Arizona has seen inadequate counseling support and resources of trauma-informed
therapists approved through the State’s Medicaid programs. The organization has found it vital to offer
supplementary services and support to change the trajectory of the youth served.
The program goals are to: 1. Provide supplemental onsite mental health counseling to Housing clients; 2.
Access to high-quality services that are trauma-informed; 3. Help improve clients’ ability to establish and
maintain healthy relationships; 4. Help improved clients’ cognitive ability to identify past trauma and work
towards healing; 5. Enhance the client’s ability to cope and identify positive decision-making processes;
and 6. Improves clients’ overall well-being.
The program’s desired outcome is to see an overall decrease in each client’s Beck’s Depression Inventory
and Beck’s Anxiety Inventory scores over the eight-week sessions. When a client’s inventory scores
decrease, indicates a decrease in depression and anxiety.

toward a solution for unhoused individuals in Arizona. The organization instills hope and changes the
trajectory of youth served through the Housing Project.

Implementation Timeline
In March of 2023, Foster Arizona launched its mental health services for youth in the Housing Project
hosting one-on-one, one-hour trauma-informed therapy sessions for eight weeks for Housing clients to
address their trauma and underlying root causes and barriers hindering their progression in their overall
well-being. After the completion of the eight-week sessions, the team will evaluate if additional support is
needed.

The Housing Project budget is $291,230 and the Mental Health program budget is $31,700.
The mental health program is a vital resource for the Housing Project’s young adults and will be a
continuing program. Foster Arizona will redirect funding to ensure the program continues to meet this
important space for young adults.
A $10,000 grant from Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation will help equip clients with the tools and resources
to successfully navigate healthy relationships, utilize coping skills to identify positive decision processes
and improve overall well-being to prevent homelessness further while empowering them to lead healthy,
stable, and active lives in our community.

The Housing Project is in Maricopa County in Mesa, Arizona. Additionally, the program support services,
including mental health services, take place at our offices also located in Mesa, Arizona.
Foster Arizona meets the needs of unhoused youth through its Housing Project equipping them with the

become active contributors to our community.

2023 Arizona Benefits Fund Grant Application
Project Summary:
This project is to enhance Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office’s (MCSO) ability to document and
reconstruct evidence at crime scenes. The completed work product can then be used to present
the evidence to prosecutors, judges and juries. MCSO is requesting to purchase two Dell laptops
and two software licenses of DJI Terra Pro to be used in conjunction with aerial photos taken
from drones at crime and/or crash scenes.
Narrative:
1. The proposed program or project, and whether it is a new or continuing project;
This project is a new project and is planned to be a one-time purchase at this time. The proposed
project is to enhance MCSO’s ability to document and reconstruct evidence at crime scenes. The
completed work product can then be used to present the evidence to prosecutors, judges and
juries. MCSO is requesting to purchase two Dell laptops and two software licenses of DJI Terra
Pro to be used in conjunction with aerial photos taken from drones at crime and/or crash scenes.
One of the laptops and software licenses will be assigned to our Major Crimes Division to assist
investigators with crime/crash scene reconstruction at the scenes of homicides, kidnappings,
armed robberies, aggravated assaults and numerous other felonies. The detectives can use the
software to stitch together aerial photographs to create a 2-D or 3-D orthomosaic of crime
scenes, which they can use to take measurements vertically or horizontally. These orthomosaics
create a realistic view of the scene that allow evidence to be viewed in numerous ways and create
outstanding visuals when presented in court. The second laptop and software license will be
assigned to the Intelligence Information Division (IID) and will be used to support various
detective units within MCSO to include the Major Crimes Division, the General Crimes
Division, and the Special Investigations Division. IID can also use the orthomosaics created by
the DJI Terra software to assist with Threat Vulnerability Assessments at schools, churches,
courts, government buildings and numerous other high value target locations. The Dell laptops
are upgraded units with dedicated graphics cards, large solid-state drives and large amounts of
RAM. These computers are needed because the DJI Terra and other software programs that are
being utilized to create these orthomosaics and diagrams, etc. have very stringent requirements to
function properly. IID will also use this laptop and software to teach detectives within MCSO
and other outside agencies in various crime scene collection techniques to include the use of
drones, laser scanners and other technologies. The total cost for this project is $23,973.10.
2. The purpose of the program or project and how it meets one or more of Fort McDowell’s
funding priorities (i.e., education, public safety, health, environment, and economic and
community development);
Public Safety – This project will directly impact public safety through the improvement of
thorough crime scene collection and the presentation of evidence to juries, etc.
3. The need that the program or project aims to fulfill, the population targeted, and the
estimated number of people who will be served by the grant;

The number of people to be served by this project is the entire population of Maricopa County,
which is currently estimated at over 4 million people. MCSO regularly assists numerous public
safety agencies within and around our jurisdiction, and this project will enhance that capability.
MCSO potentially could utilize this equipment and software to also assist agencies outside of
Maricopa County through various training courses, such as but not limited to the Arizona
Homicide Investigators Association Basic Homicide course, or through responses to crime
scenes, etc. in other jurisdictions.

There are no other organizations, partners, or funders participating in this project.
5. The timetable for implementation of the program or project.
The timetable for implementation of the project would be as soon as possible after funding is
awarded. The quotes will need to be updated upon receiving the award and then the purchasing
paperwork can be completed and submitted immediately. The entire process of purchasing the
requested items is estimated to be completed within six months of the award being funded.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation extends its heartfelt appreciation for Fort McDowell Yavapai
Nation’s longstanding partnership. We are grateful for the opportunity to present an application for a Prop
202 Grant request below.
Project Summary
The Comprehensive Medication and Firearm Safety Program promotes safe medication and firearm
storage to reduce intentional and unintentional medication and firearm misuse among patients and
families served by Phoenix Children’s and in the community. The program will focus on pediatric
patients at risk of suicide, patients recovering from surgery who are provided pain relief medications,
patients with complex medical conditions requiring multiple medications, and families in our
community seeking to gain knowledge on improving safety in their homes. Using these proven
strategies could reduce both intentional and unintentional overdose and firearm injury among patients
of Phoenix Children’s as well as families in the community.
Narrative
Proposed Program or Project
Phoenix Children’s respectfully requests a grant award of $25,000 in support of our Comprehensive
Medication and Firearm Safety Program. Funds will provide educational outreach, medication lockboxes,
medication disposal bags, and firearm locks to patients at Phoenix Children’s and community members at
public awareness events. The program is in its first year of operation and is an ongoing program of
Phoenix Children’s. In honor of this generous gift, Phoenix Children’s will recognize the Fort McDowell
Yavapai Nation in a manner reflecting your commitment and dedication to the health and well-being of our
community’s children.
This program will provide medication and firearm safety resources to 2,400 patients, families, and
community members across Arizona and at Phoenix Children’s sponsored public awareness events.
Physicians, nurses, and social workers will screen and identify patients for suicidal ideation. If signs of
suicidal ideation or mental health crises are identified and families lack the means to safely store
medication or firearms in their homes, health care workers will provide them with medication lockboxes,
medication disposal bags, firearm locks, and instructions on their use prior to discharge as part of the
patient’s treatment and safety plan.
Phoenix Children’s will hold eight community awareness events per year throughout the Phoenix
metropolitan area. At these events, injury prevention specialists will interact with the community, educate
attendees about the importance of safe medication and firearm storage, and distribute event bags that
contain medication lock boxes, medication disposal pouches, firearm locks, and educational handouts
about safely storing medications.
The one-year cost to deliver the Comprehensive Medication and Firearm Safety Program is $241,885.
Phoenix Children’s respectfully requests $25,000 to directly support the purchase and distribution of secure
medication lock boxes, medication disposal bags, and firearm locks. Specifically, through this funding,
Phoenix Children’s will purchase:

Project Purpose
The Comprehensive Medication and Firearm Safety Program will bring greater awareness to medication and
firearm safety, decrease medication and firearm misuse, and increase Phoenix Children’s service reach. It is
an actionable resource to equip patients and community members with the tools and information to prevent
intentional and unintentional medication and firearm misuse. In the long term, this program will decrease
child injury and fatality rates.
Project Need
Injury and death related to medications and firearms are a major public health concern and pose a
significant risk to children struggling with mental health crises. According to Arizona Child Fatality Review
data, poisoning was the fourth leading cause of preventable death among children in 2021. Substance use
was involved in 43% of preventable deaths and firearms not properly stored were involved in 71% of firearm
deaths. Studies show less than 5% of patients have the proper equipment to safely store medications or
firearms in the home. At Phoenix Children’s, mental health crisis admissions to the Emergency Department
and Inpatient Psychiatry have increased. When these patients are discharged, they require a plan limiting
their access to lethal items including medication.
Project Partners
Phoenix Children’s has established philanthropic partnerships in support of the Comprehensive Medication
and Firearm Safety Program. This includes the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Foundation for
Community & Health Advancement, Incenter Cares, and Ace Hardware. Philanthropic support from these
partners reflects the critical need in the community to ensure families can implement safety measures in
their homes. The program also partners interdepartmentally with our Suicide Prevention Program and
Emergency Department by distributing safety kit items to families whose children are identified as
presenting with suicide ideation.
Project Implementation Timetable
The project timeline will take place during the fourth quarter of calendar year 2023 and the first three
quarters of calendar year 2024 (November 2023-October 2024). The project is currently in operation and will
be ongoing. Kits are being distributed with funding awarded in 2023. Phoenix Children’s will purchase
additional prevention kit items upon a funding award from Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation to continue the
program. The program will schedule community awareness events during the winter of 2023 and the spring
and fall of 2024.

Statement of Presence
Phoenix Children’s is located in Maricopa County, Arizona. The main campus address is 1919 E. Thomas
Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Phoenix Children’s has been operational since 1983.
Phoenix Children’s is a statewide, interconnected non-profit pediatric health system with urgent care
centers and specialty offices across Arizona. It is also the only pediatric health system in Arizona with a
freestanding children’s hospital. With a team of over 1,000 medical professionals spanning 38 facilities,
Phoenix Children’s offers the most comprehensive pediatric care in the Southwest, providing a full range of
services solely dedicated to children. By providing top-tier and comprehensive health care to its
constituents, Phoenix Children’s has earned distinction as a “Best Children’s Hospital” from U.S. News and
World Report for twelve consecutive years, receiving top rankings in a number of specialties. Phoenix
Children’s is committed to caring for its most vulnerable populations and creating innovative programs that
address the health care needs of all children. As a destination health care facility Phoenix Children’s is
adept at providing complex medical care and treatment for those struggling with their mental health.
The target population for this program are children ages 0-18 in the following Arizona counties: Maricopa
County, Apache, Mohave, Navajo, and Pinal County. The target population includes pediatric patients at risk
of suicide, surgery patients who are prescribed pain medications after being discharged to their home,
patients with complex medical needs who are prescribed multiple medications, and families in the
community. The Maricopa County Health Department conducted focus groups to identify needs in the
community. Phoenix Children’s will use this data and trauma and child fatality statistics to target
communities in need. The Comprehensive Medication Safety Program will promote safe medication and
firearm storage. The goal is to reduce intentional and unintentional medication abuse, misuse, and
overdose of medications and accidental or intentional firearm misuse among patients and families at
Phoenix Children’s and in targeted communities.

Project Summary: A short description of the project that is no more than four (4) sentences.
Planned Parenthood Arizona (PPAZ) requests $27,500 to support patients at its Mesa Health
Center. This grant will boost the Patient Care Fund in Mesa to benefit low income, uninsured or
under-insured patients who struggle with out-of-pocket costs for health care. When patients know
financial help is available, they are likely to seek and continue care. PPAZ’s goal is to reach more
residents of the East Valley with sexual and reproductive health services and education, helping
them make healthy choices and avoid illnesses such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs)+.
Narrative: A narrative of no more than two (2) pages describing the following:
1. The proposed program or project, and whether it is a new or continuing project.
Planned Parenthood Arizona (PPAZ), a 501(c)(3) organization since 1944, serving all people in
Arizona with a range of reproductive health services and education through telehealth and seven
health centers in Maricopa, Pima, and Coconino counties. Five of the health centers are in Maricopa
County. One is in Mesa, just north of US Route 60 on South Gilbert Road. It can easily serve
residents of Mesa, Gilbert, east Tempe, and Apache Junction with women’s and men’s health care;
birth control; pregnancy testing and services; emergency contraception; referrals for abortion; STI
(sexually transmitted infection) testing, treatment, and vaccines; and HIV testing and HIV pre and
post-exposure preventive medicine (PEP and PrEP). The Mesa Health Center served 3,873 patients
between 7/1/2021 and 6/30/2022 (PPAZ’s fiscal year 2022). It has the capacity to serve more
people, especially now that PPAZ is adding a second clinician to its staff.
One of the main services utilized at Mesa Health Center is HIV services, including rapid (15 minute)
in-clinic testing for HIV. PPAZ can rapid-start HIV treatment for patients who test positive for HIV and
make referrals to specialists to continue care. Additional HIV related services include safe sex
education, payment assistance, and care navigation program referrals. Importantly, we provide both
PEP (after exposure to HIV) and PrEP (before exposure to HIV), critical medications to prevent the
transmission of HIV in the
community. Throughout the
patients’ appointments, a staff
member called a “patient navigator”
is available to support them, answer
their questions, and help them find
resources, such as financial help.
When patients do not have the
money to cover their out-of-pocket
costs, PPAZ’s Patient Care Fund can help if they meet low-income guidelines and do not have
insurance that will cover those costs.
HIV and other STI testing occur several times a day at the Mesa Health Center. PrEP treatment
occurs at least every other day. PrEP patients come in every three months and are very happy to be
able to get this service. The clinic recognizes more and more patients every week who are
candidates for this service. Some already know about it before coming in, and some do not.
2. The purpose of the program or project and how it meets one or more of Fort
McDowell’s funding priorities (i.e., education, public safety, health, environment, and
economic and community development).
Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation invests in the good health of Maricopa County’s residents. This
interest is fully aligned with Planned Parenthood Arizona’s (PPAZ) mission to provide preventive
health care and up-do-date, accurate education for patients, so they can make informed choices in

their own lives. Overall, improving the health status of individuals in Mesa and surrounding East
Valley cities and neighborhoods improves the health status of the entire region.
3. The need that the program or project aims to fulfill, the population targeted, and the
estimated number of people who will be served by the grant.
Planned Parenthood is one of the nation’s leading providers of high-quality, confidential, affordable
reproductive health care and the nation’s largest provider of sex education. With or without
insurance, anyone can come to Planned Parenthood for care. Planned Parenthood Arizona (PPAZ)
promotes and protects all Arizonan’s freedom and right to enjoy sexual health and well-being, to
make reproductive choices, and build healthy, strong families. PPAZ does this by offering affordable,
compassionate, quality reproductive health care, honest information, and inclusive and thorough sex
education to increase positive health outcomes. Supporting sexual health and responsible education
is at the heart of what PPAZ does.
New leadership at PPAZ is using bold community-needs-based ideas to expand our family practice
and family planning services. The strategy includes: 1) moving to a two-clinician model in PPAZ’s
health centers to serve more patients; 2) adding surgical sterilization (vasectomy) for males; 3)
adding sedation services for procedures like IUD insertions or removals; 4) implementing patient
navigation and doula services; 5) expanding services for the LGBTQ community, such as expanding
gender affirming care services to all health centers and telehealth, and 6) putting into service a
mobile health unit in Maricopa County.
Many of the people served by the Mesa Health Center are low income, have no income, have limited
insurance or no insurance. These patients need help paying out-of-pocket health care costs. To help
them, PPAZ created its Patient Care Fund. Patients must qualify
as low-income to access assistance from the fund. Most patients
served by the Mesa Health Center are between the ages of 18 –
65, but minors can access health exams, pregnancy tests, and
birth control, and seniors can access health exams, STI testing
and treatment, and other health screenings, such as cancer
screening. All these patients may request assistance from the
Patient Care Fund and will receive it if they qualify.
Because the out-of-pocket costs vary according to each patient’s needs, it is challenging to predict
how many patients might benefit from a $27,500 grant for patient care. An initial visit to the health
center costs $80, and follow-up visits cost $70. Birth control can be provided monthly if the patient is
willing to pick it up at the health center, at a cost to the grant of $15/month, which equals $180/year.
Laboratory test costs vary widely, as do the costs of procedures, such as IUD insertion or removal.
Given all the potential variables in patient needs, PPAZ estimates the grant will serve more than 200
patients at the Mesa Health Center.

There are no other partners, and PPAZ has not applied to any other tribes for Patient Care Funding
support for the Mesa Health Center.

Upon receipt of the grant funds, the Patient Care Funds will be immediately available to patients.

Budget Narrative
Initial Office Visit: Includes introduction, medical interview, and evaluation with
clinician. Diagnosis may include recommendation for lab tests, prescriptions, or
procedures. Estimation that 80 patients may need financial assistance. 80 patients @
$80/visit = $6,400.
Follow-up Office Visit: Includes evaluation of patient progress on recommendations
from initial visit. May include further recommendations. Estimation that 80 patients
may need financial assistance. 80 patients x $70/visit = $5,600.
Telehealth Initial Visit: Includes introduction, medical interview, and evaluation with
clinician. Diagnosis may include recommendation for lab tests, prescriptions, or
procedures. Estimation that 25 patients may need financial assistance. 25 patients @
$80/visit = $2,000.
Telehealth Follow-up Visit: Includes evaluation of patient progress on

Indirect Expenses: 10% of the project budget will support grant implementation to

Electronic Grant Application re: Bloodmobile Sponsorship
Dear Grant Committee:
Vitalant began in Scottsdale Arizona in 1943 and is celebrating 80 years! Vitalant's primary
mission is to ensure a safe and ample blood supply in support of an effective healthcare system
through community blood donations. The shelf life of a unit of blood is 42 days, and Vitalant
must continually gather blood donations, 600+ per day in Arizona. This occurs at 7 fixed blood
centers, blood drives held at businesses, and through hundreds of mobile drives held using
mobile donation vehicles or bloodmobiles.
Vitalant has grown to become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit blood services
provider, with services in 28 states. The life-saving blood which Vitalant collects, processes,
tests and supplies throughout Arizona is donated by volunteer blood donors, collected at fixed
sites but also through community blood drives held throughout the state. Without blood
donors, hospitals and healthcare systems would not have the blood and blood products they
need to save and sustain patients’ lives.
Funding of $50,000 will sponsor a bloodmobile used to gather lifesaving blood throughout the
Valley and State, with Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation logo recognition provided for 2 years (see
attached photos of a bloodmobile with recognition example for AZ Superbowl Host
Committee). As the leader in Arizona, Vitalant supplies blood products to 100% of hospitals in
Maricopa County and 95% of hospitals statewide.
Each bloodmobile is used for an average of 162 blood drives every year in the state, collecting
an average of 3,260 units of blood. Each unit can save up to 3 lives; therefore, the impact is
nearly 10,000 individuals provided with lifesaving blood in a single year, generated through one
bloodmobile traveling around the Valley and State. In 2023, projections indicate participation
in mobile blood drives will increase and exceed pre-pandemic levels. The need for blood
products is always at a critical level in Arizona, as we strive to meet the demand of our hospital
partners serving the massive growth in the state. Patient blood needs don’t follow a consistent
schedule. One patient can have an emergency requiring multiple units of blood, while a
planned surgery could suddenly require dozens of units of blood for one patient. Hospitals must
have blood available to take care of everyone as the needs arise.
Generous funding from Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation will help sponsor the collection of
approximately 7,000 units of blood over two years. With each unit of blood assisting up to 3
patients by extracting red cells, plasma and platelets, the impact is approximately 18,000
patients benefitting from your support! Our work impacts patients facing medical emergencies
and trauma, major surgeries, cancer, sickle cell disease, rare blood disorders, and more.
