Presentation and discussion on the 2026 Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Network Strategic

SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The City of Buckeye is updating the 2018 ITS Network Strategic Plan.  The original plan was approved
by City Council in January 2018.  The ITS Strategic Plan is a guidance document to optimize the
capacity of the transportation system, improve safety, and reduce peak-hour delays on arterials by
facilitating active operation and management. The ITS Network Strategic Plan identify strategies and
tools that enables the City to manage its transportation network more efficiently.  ITS includes
communications and field technologies that are integrated into the transportation network such as traffic
signals, cameras, fiber optic communications, and Transportation Management Center (TMC), as well as
connectivity to city buildings, water facilities, fire stations, parks and other vital city infrastructure.  The
plan details specific fiber network expansion, future staffing needs, and other city departments
involvement.
BENEFITS:
ITS infrastructure network optimizes the capacity of the transportation system, improve safety, and
reduce peak-hour delays on arterials by facilitating active operation and management of the
transportation network
FUTURE ACTION:
The adoption of this Plan does not require any specific actions. There will be future Capital Improvement
Program (CIP) projects and pursuit of Grants to install the necessary infrastructure that will require City
Council approval in the future.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT:
The ITS Network Strategic Plan does not have an immediate financial impact; however, the Plan
identifies recommended CIP projects to be programmed.
CURRENT FISCAL YEAR TOTAL COST:
The ITS Network Strategic Plan does not have a current fiscal year toal cost.

No
