Council to take action on Resolution No. 54-26 approving the Intergovernmental Agreement between the
City of Buckeye, an Arizona municipal corporation, and Maricopa County related to High Intensity Drug
Trafficking Area Funding.

SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Buckeye is an active participant in HIDTA enforcement initiatives and has sworn Police personnel
assigned to the Task Force, whereby the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) administers the
funds. Buckeye law enforcement personnel will work through the Task Force to investigate criminal
organizations operating drug labs and/or distributing narcotics within Arizona. The HIDTA through MCSO
will reimburse $30,000 in employee-related overtime benefits to Buckeye for sworn personnel
participating in the Task Force.
BENEFITS:
The Buckeye Police Department has been an active participant in HIDTA Task Force efforts and has
aided in Task Force efforts for several years, benefiting Maricopa County as a whole. Buckeye’s
participation is pertinent to the community’s well-being as opioid related cases are rapidly increasing in
Maricopa County.  MCSO will reimburse Buckeye for up to $30,000 in employee-related benefits
associated with overtime.
FUTURE ACTION:
After the IGA ends, Buckeye anticipates entering into a new intergovernmental agreement with MCSO.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT:
The IGA funds $30,000 in employee-related benefits associated with overtime from July 1, 2026, to June
30, 2028. Buckeye personnel currently participate in the HIDTA Task Force. The amount to be
reimbursed is included in the FY 2027 budget and is anticipated to be included in FY 2028 budget. There
is no anticipated negative financial impact on the City of Buckeye.

CURRENT FISCAL YEAR TOTAL COST:
The fiscal year 2027 cost is estimated to be $15,000, reimbursable by MCSO and is included in the FY
2027 budget. The total cost over 24 months (July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2028) will be $30,000 through the
IGA.
