Department of Emergency and Military Affairs through the United States Department of Homeland Security – 
Summary Recap 
 
Project Description:   
The City of Buckeye’s Community Services Department seeks to address the non-native invasive plants, which 
are negatively impacting Skyline Regional Park’s ecological health and the safety of adjacent communities 
through the submission of a grant application that supports the removal of the non-native invasive plants that 
serve as wildfire fuel. The grant request is $502,500, with a required in-kind match from the City of Buckeye. 
The total cost is $670,000. If awarded, the grant covers a 24-month period. The in-kind match consists of 
administrative and project labor provided by Buckeye staff members. This in-kind match is included in the 
Community Services General Fund Budget for Fiscal Year 2027. If awarded, the Award Agreement will be 
presented to Council for budget authority, as well as the authority to accept and execute the grant award.

 $ 670,000 (over a 24-month period)

 $ 167,500 (in-kind, over a 24-month period)

 $ 502,500 (over a 24-month period) 
Plans Once Grant Expires:  
 
If awarded, the Award Agreement will be presented to Council for budget authority, as well as the 
authority to accept and execute the grant award. If awarded and after all grant funding has been 
exhausted, any additional wildfire hazard mitigation maintenance needs will come from the Community 
Services General Fund account unless additional grant funding opportunities become available, in which 
case the Grants team will pursue.  
Objectives and Expected Outcomes:  
 
If awarded, the fire fuel removal will improve firefighter safety and public safety, reduce wildfire risk to 
life and property, and improve fire prevention and suppression. This project will reduce risk to the Verrado 
community and help protect Skyline Regional Park and its users. Additionally, the removal of these plants 
and weeds will free up vital resources for the native vegetation of Skyline Regional Park, allowing native 
plants to thrive.

     FY2027 and FY2028
