Council to take action on Resolution No. 01-26 ordering and calling a Primary Election to be held on
Tuesday, July 21, 2026, and, if necessary, a General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 3,
2026, to nominate candidates for Council Member seats for Districts 4, 5, and 6 in the City of Buckeye;
designating or providing for the manner in which the City Clerk shall conduct the election; Spanish
translation of election materials; and the deadline for voter registration and mailing of ballots.
SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
At the Primary Election, the qualified electors will vote for candidates for three Councilmember seats for
Districts 4, 5, and 6 on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, whose names shall appear on the ballot. Any candidates
receiving a majority of all the votes cast at the Primary Election will be declared elected. The General
Election is called and will be held on November 3, 2026 in the event the nominated candidates do not
receive a majority of votes during the Primary Election.
On Friday, February 6, 2026, Governor Hobbs signed HB2022, changing the Primary Election date to
July 21, 2026.  HB2022 went into effect immediately, due to the emergency clause.  
Ballot drop-off locations, replacement sites, early-voting sites, and voting locations will be determined by
Maricopa County and the information will be provided to the public.
BENEFITS:
This Resolution serves to call the election for three Councilmember seats. The General Election is called
in the event the nominated candidates do not receive a majority of votes during the Primary Election.
FUTURE ACTION:
Although not required by statute, a Call of Election will be published in local newspapers to inform the
public. The Maricopa County Elections Department will be notified for contract services; ballot language
and materials will be translated. Interested candidates may check out an election packet by appointment
with the City Clerk. Signatures may be obtained by interested candidates. To become an official Regular
Candidate, a Statement of Interest, Signature Petitions, Nomination Paper, Campaign Finance
Documents, and a Financial Disclosure Statement may be officially filed with the City Clerk beginning
February 23, 2026 and ending March 23, 2026 (by 5:00 p.m.).
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT:
The City will contract with Maricopa County for election services. The County charges a fee of .50 cents
per voter. As of February 10, 2026 there are approximately 71,000 registered voters in Buckeye. Funds
will also be spent on various election activities, including newspaper publications, printed materials, and
translation services.  The total election expenses are anticipated to be $125,000.

Approximately $125,000 will be spent on election expenses with the majority occurring in Fiscal Year
2026-2027
