Maricopa Association of Governments – Federal Fiscal Year 2026 Closeout Funding Grant Application – 
Summary Recap 
Project Description:   
The City of Buckeye seeks to improve roadway safety within Buckeye through a grant application, which 
requests funding to support the installation of a conduit duct bank on the west side of Miller Road between 
Monroe Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, where conduit does not currently exist (Capital Improvement 
Program: Project Number 101760). The project also supports the installation of splice vaults every half mile 
with a single-mode fiber optic cable running to the traffic signal controller. The project has an updated 
construction cost, which is approximately $519,000 over the original Capital Improvement Program-funded 
estimate. If awarded, this grant will relieve the City of Buckeye from the need to identify additional funding to 
cover increased construction costs.

Plans Once Grant Expires:  
 
If awarded, the award agreement will be presented to Council for approval. After the grant funding has 
been exhausted, any other costs associated with this project will need to be funded by the City of Buckeye, 
unless other potential grant funding opportunities arise. Additionally, any required future maintenance 
will be funded by the City of Buckeye.  
Objectives and Expected Outcomes:  
 
The Capital Improvement Program: Project Number 101760 supports the Miller Road-Monroe Avenue 
Intelligent Transportation System, which includes the installation of conduits, splice vaults, and fiber optic 
cables. The installation of these elements will improve transportation mobility, safety, and efficiency along 
Miller Road, positioning the corridor for future development. If awarded, the grant will relieve the City of 
Buckeye from the need to identify additional funding sources to cover increased construction costs. 
Time Period for the Grant: 
 FY 2026, maybe FY 2027, depending on when the grant is awarded.
