Community Oriented Policing Services – FY 2025 Community Oriented Policing Services Grant Award – 
Summary Recap 
Project Description:   
The Buckeye Police Department seeks to improve safety within Buckeye through this grant award, which 
supports the addition of four new law enforcement officers in an effort to increase their common-sense 
community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts. The new officers are in addition to the current 
budgeted level of sworn officer positions. Anticipated outcomes of this awarded grant include reductions in 
domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault, through investigations, interdiction, and arrests. 
The grant will cover a portion of four law enforcement officers’ salaries and benefits over a 36-month 
period. After the 36-month grant period is complete, the Buckeye Police Department is required to retain 
the law enforcement officers for 12 months. Thereafter, Buckeye may retain, reduce, or eliminate the 
positions. 
 
Project Cost: 
 $ 1,431,412 ($500,00.00 reimbursable based on budget, over a 36-month period) 
 
Required Match: 
 $ 931,412 (over a 36-month period) 
 
Grant Amount:  
 $ 500,000 (over a 36-month period) 
Plans Once Grant Expires:  
 
After the grant's 36-month funding for the four law enforcement officers has been exhausted, Buckeye 
will be required to retain the law enforcement officers through the general fund budget for a 12-month 
period. If available, the Grants Team will pursue other potential grant funding opportunities to fund 
these positions. Buckeye will also have the option to retain, reduce, or eliminate the positions.  
Objectives and Expected Outcomes:  
 
The four new officers will be utilized to establish a team focused on community engagement and 
empowerment, forensic research, technical analysis and assistance, preventive education, and 
investigative work product and follow-up. The team will strive to coordinate a network of 
complementary organizations that often work independently of each other. These officers will identify, 
contact, and coordinate a joint effort of community resources to reduce domestic violence concerns, 
sexual assault, and human trafficking. These officers will be selected on their ability to communicate 
effectively with community groups, implement community problem-solving programs, implement digital 
forensic analysis, and conduct effective criminal intelligence.

 FY 2026 through FY 2031
