ACTION/MOTION: (This language identifies the formal motion to be made by the Council) 
Council to take action to ratify and approve the submission of a $1,500,000 Phoenix Urban Area Security
Initiative Grant Application through the Arizona Department of Homeland Security for the purchase of a
new Hazardous Materials truck to replace the existing failing one; and authorize and direct the Mayor,
City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk to carry out the purpose and intent of said Grant Application.
SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department requires a new Hazardous Materials (HazMat) truck to
replace the existing failing HazMat truck, which is beyond its useful life and is over 16 years old. Without
a timely replacement, Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department personnel and citizens may face
challenges responding to hazardous materials incidents, potentially necessitating assistance from
neighboring jurisdictions and resulting in extended response times. Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue
Department's Hazardous Materials truck is becoming unreliable as the aging parts are experiencing wear
and tear. The Hazardous Materials truck requested through this grant opportunity is equipped with state-
of-the-art technology to meet today's tactical needs and increase responder rescue, medical, and public
safety efforts on all high-risk calls.
BENEFITS:
The objective is to ensure that the Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department will be able to provide the
community with swift, excellent service and ensure that all Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department
members and the general public are safe and protected from potentially hazardous materials. The new
Hazardous Materials truck will benefit the City of Buckeye with reliable, state of the art equipment,
ensuring acceptable response times to Hazardous Materials events while providing excellent service and
safety to the public.
FUTURE ACTION:
If awarded, the Grant Agreement will be presented to Council for acceptance and approval.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Federal grant portion is $1,500,000. There is no match required for this grant.
CURRENT FISCAL YEAR TOTAL COST:
$1,500,000 if awarded in FY26.
