Phoenix Urban Area Security Initiative Grant Application through the Arizona Department of Homeland 
Security Application Summary Recap 
Project Description:   
The Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department urgently requires a new Hazardous Materials truck to 
replace the existing failing HazMat truck, which is beyond its useful life and is over 16 years old. Without a 
timely replacement, Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department personnel and citizens may face challenges 
responding to hazardous materials incidents, potentially necessitating assistance from neighboring 
jurisdictions and resulting in extended response times. Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department’s 
Hazardous Materials truck is becoming unreliable as the aging parts are experiencing wear and tear. The 
Hazardous Materials truck requested through this grant opportunity is equipped with state-of-the-art 
technology to meet today’s tactical needs and increase responder rescue, medical, and public safety 
efforts on all high-risk calls.  There is No Match required.

Plans Once Grant Expires:  
 If awarded, after all grant funds have been expended, any future maintenance for the hazardous 
materials truck will become a part of the Fire Department’s budget, unless future grant opportunities 
arise, which the City will pursue. 
 
Objectives and Expected Outcomes  
 The objective is to ensure that the Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department will be able to provide 
the community with swift, excellent service and ensure that all Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue 
Department members and the general public are safe and protected from potentially hazardous 
materials. The new Hazardous Materials truck will benefit the City of Buckeye by ensuring response 
times to Hazardous Materials events remain low, providing safety to the public. 
 
Time Period for the Grant 
 
2026 and maybe 2027, depending on when Buckeye receives the award notification, if awarded.
