Phoenix Urban Area Security Initiative Grant Application through the Arizona Department of Homeland 
Security Application Summary Recap 
Project Description:   
 The Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department urgently requires 100 new P-25 compliant National Fire 
Protection Association 1802 certified radios. The radios are necessary to conduct Hazardous Materials, 
terrorist, and mass catastrophic event response activities. The Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department's 
current radios are 13 years old, at the end of their useful life, are not state-of-the-art, and are becoming 
unreliable, making multi-jurisdictional responses difficult.

Plans Once Grant Expires:  
 If awarded, after all grant funds have been expended, any future maintenance for the radios will become 
a part of the Fire Department’s budget, unless future grant opportunities arise, which the City will pursue. 
 
Objectives and Expected Outcomes  
 The radios requested in the grant application will enhance the Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department’s 
ability to effectively communicate and will benefit multi-jurisdictional response efforts. The new radios 
will ensure that the Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department has reliable communications equipment to 
provide exceptional and timely service to the community. 
Time Period for the Grant 
 2026 and maybe 2027, depending on when Buckeye receives the award notification, if awarded.
