ACTION/MOTION: (This language identifies the formal motion to be made by the Council) 
Council to take action to approve the receipt of $161,421 in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding and $4,248 in Arizona Department of
Transportation (ADOT) grant awards to the City of Buckeye for the design of Runway 17-35, Taxiway A
and Connectors Electrical Upgrades; and authorize the City Manager and the Aviation Director to
execute all grant awards and design contract awards relating to the grants on behalf of the City of
Buckeye.
SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Existing Runway 17-35 is approximately 5,500 feet in length and 75 feet in width with a two-box
Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) at the approach end of runway 17 and a 4 box PAPI at the
approach end of runway 35. The Airport Engineer, Kimley Horn, will provide design plans for the
replacement of this PAPI system with new 4-box PAPIs on each end of Runway 17-35 that will match
current Vertical Glideslope Indicator (VGSI) angles to match the new Non-Precision approaches to the
runway.  This project also includes the installation of new electrical improvements on Runway 17-35,
including new Light Emitting Diode (LED) runway edge light fixtures installed on new base cans with new
conduit as well as new LED signs installed on new concrete sign bases. This project will also include
new LED taxiway edge lighting with new conduits and base cans along existing Taxiway H and renaming
Taxiway H to Taxiway A in accordance with FAA Standards, as well as the associated connector
taxiways.
BENEFITS:
These electrical upgrades, as well as navigation upgrades and taxiway redesignations will bring the
Airport up to the most up to date FAA standards, which will, in turn, make the Buckeye Municipal Airport
more attractive to future expansion and economic development opportunities.  As the Airport improves its
navigation abilities, it becomes more attractive to larger aircraft, including commercial and/or jet traffic.
FUTURE ACTION:
Manage the design and request FAA and ADOT construction funding as soon as possible after design is
complete.
