Arizona Department of Game and Fish FY 2026 Shooting Range Development Grant Program Award – 
Enhancements to the Joe Foss Shooting Range - Summary Recap 
Project Description:   
On January 7th, 2025, the City of Buckeye and Maricopa County entered into an agreement that provides for 
the management of the Joe Foss Shooting Complex by the City. The City of Buckeye Community Services 
Department desires to facilitate archery by improving the archery areas to include a 5-lane varying distance 
two-dimensional target range and a 15-station three-dimensional course, both of which do not currently 
functionally exist. The proposed project will also address parking access adjacent to the courses, pathways, 
shooting station enhancements, a pergola, seating areas, picnic tables, signage, and training equipment. The 
grant award amount is $48,500, if following the original archery improvement plan, the City’s required match 
is approximately $102,000.

Plans Once Grant Expires:  
  Any additional Joe Foss Shooting Range needs will come from the Community Services General Fund 
account unless additional grant funding opportunities become available, in which the Grants Team will 
pursue.  
Objectives and Expected Outcomes  
 The objective is to provide the community with a safe, secure, and encouraging facility for all to practice 
and enjoy archery. This project will create the only publicly available archery course and range within the 
City of Buckeye. The City of Buckeye anticipates partnerships with local schools such as the Buckeye Union 
High School as they are an active participant in the National Archery in the Schools Program, which hosts 
Tournament events. This new facility will allow competitive archers to practice and allow Buckeye to host 
tournament events. The proposed shade structures and seating areas will encourage spectators to attend 
tournament events and practices. The proposed project will also support and enhance the City of Buckeye 
Community Services Department’s community programs.
