Council to take action on Ordinance No. 20-25 approving the transfer of certain rights-of-way and
roadways, lying in Section 26 and 35, Township 1 North Range 4 West, and Section 2, Township 1
South, Range 4 West of the Gila and Salt River Base and Meridian, Maricopa County, Arizona, with
reputed street names of (i) Southern Avenue, lying west of SR85 and (ii) Baseline Road, lying west of
SR85.
SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The City of Buckeye ("City") is the applicant for this roadway transfer request. The purpose of this
request is to transfer from Maricopa County's jurisdiction a segment of Southern Avenue and Baseline
Road between SR85 and Turner Road. This will allow the Buckeye 225 development to complete the
required roadway and infrastructure improvements.  Specifically with regard to a roadway, Arizona
Revised Statutes Section 9-471(O) allows for an abbreviated annexation procedure by mutual consent of
the governing bodies of the county and a municipality if the property transferred is adjacent to the
receiving municipality and if each governing body approves the proposed transfer as a published agenda
item at a regular public meeting of their governing bodies.
BENEFITS:
This abbreviated annexation and construction of street improvements by the developer will improve
traffic circulation in the vicinity of the project site. Also annexing this area will avoid any challenges for
the City concerning review submittals with the City and construction of this corridor.
FUTURE ACTION:
Upon approval by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, the Ordinance with legal descriptions will
be recorded with the Maricopa County Recorder's Office.
